Formal Bloodstock

Kirstina Fortune descends from an historic racing family, was the youngest graduate of Kentucky Equine Institute and worked at top operations Castleton, North Ridge, Norfields and Three Chimneys before going out on her own in the 1990s. A lifelong student of pedigrees, she guides the matings and selection of bloodstock from sales and the racetrack, and oversees the boarding and bloodstock operations with meticulous attention to detail.

Brian Malloy was an Eclipse-honored Turf Writer before joining forces with Kirstina Fortune to breed and race Thoroughbreds in the Bluegrass. He spent countless hours in the barns of top trainers, studying what it takes to make a world-class racehorse. Former managing editor of Thoroughbred Times, he now manages the employees and vendors of the breeding and boarding operations for Formal Bloodstock, as well as client relations.

Boarding

We currently have limited room in our boarding operation in Central Kentucky for open and foaling mares. Located on the highest quality soils that have produced multiple champions, we feel our program is second to none.

Matings

Kirstina Fortune is constantly studying the latest trends in pedigrees, including nickings and genetics, to select the best stallions for mares. All of our clients receive detailed matings analyses by her, if so desired.
